MUSEUMS
Holland Museum directory by Netherlands Board of Tourism- searchable by regions, type or collections. It also has virtual rooms.
RIJKSMUSEUM: major museum of Western European painting and decorative arts. Includes an extensive collection of Dutch masters.
Van Gogh Museum: With more than 200 paintings and almost 500 drawings, the Van Gogh Museum maintains the largest and most varied Van Gogh collection in the world.
REMBRANDTHUIS: located in the house where Rembrandt lived and worked from 1639 till 1658. The museum shows an almost complete collection of Rembrandt's etchings and prints.
Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art: is the most important museum of modern and contemporary art in The Netherlands.
Anne Frank: official site of the modern-day museum to Anne Frank, who spent two years in hiding while she wrote her diary in the house.

The Allard Pierson Museum: The archaeological museum of the University of Amsterdam. The nucleus of its collection are the collections of C.W. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Van Leer, Six and Van Lier.
The Netherlands Maritime Museum: Housed in the National Naval Depot, a former arsenal of the Dutch Navy that is over 300 years old. The collection tells the story of the maritime past of the Netherlands.
Tramway Museum: Volunteer museum that offers rides in vintage cars. The trams run along a former railway track along the Amsterdam Forest.
Zoological Museum: The museum curates more than 13 million specimens with special focus on South East Asian and South American fauna and marine fauna.

PERFORMING ARTS
Amsterdam has some 225 venues in total, including over seventy theatres and concert halls. Approximately 19,000 stage, music, opera, dance, cabaret etc. performances are given each year. The main theatres are the Muziektheater (music theatre) with the Het Nationale Ballet (National Ballet) and Nederlands Opera (Dutch Opera) as regular performers, the Stadsschouwburg and the Koninklijk Theater Carré. The Concertgebouw is the home of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Akhnaton, Centre for world culture: Akhnaton is a free venue for the cultural heritage of migrant youths.
Bellevue/Nieuwe de la Mar: Theatre and ballet
Koninklijk Theater Carré: Theatre for, among other things, stage plays, musicals, cabaret and circus.
Concertgebouw: Home of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
